This is my first successful attempt at growing vegetables. I have tried in the past and have always failed. This time my parents were there and they provided me with some valuable advice :). We also made a compost bin- there is quite a bit of information on the internet to make your own. I was astounded at the amount of organic waste coming out of the kitchen everyday. My daughter helped dig for some worms and we had a working compost bin.
There are a couple of tomato plants and one serrano pepper plant. The pepper plant is almost always full of bugs. I spray it with a mixture of neem oil and water. That seems to help. It hasn't affected the output.
My cousin, who has a house of her own in NC, has an extensive garden. She advised me to install the stands for the tomato plants early on. I was negligent and waited until the day one of them nearly broke. I hurried to Home Depot got a couple of stands and tried to put it in without assistance. That was a big mistake. I put it in halfway, realized I needed help and took it out. I broke quite a few branches :(. It's doing well now.
