It's been a while since I wrote. I have been somewhat occupied with my teaching and knitting. I bought a curry leaf plant (karuvappalai) plant from Logee's about a month ago. They did great job shipping the plant. The plant itself was pretty big (about six inches high) and I was pleasantly surprised. The first time I bought a curry leaf plant was when I was in Erie, PA. The nursery I bought it from shipped a plant that was about an inch and a half tall. Needless to say the teeny tiny plant did not survive the harsh, cold winter of Erie. I am having better luck with this and I hope it stays that way!
The scientific name for the curry leaf plant is Murraya koenigii. There is another plant that is referred to as "curry leaf plant". And this one apparently has leaves that smell like "curry" :). Who knew...
